This is your perfect Isle of Man holiday accommodation. Langness Lighthouse Cottages are the ultimate self-catering accommodation. Officially recognised by UNESCO as “one of the best places in the world to explore nature” the Isle of Man is outstandingly beautiful and Langness itself is an area of special scientific interest. The island’s seven officially recognised dark-sky sites means it has the largest concentration of dark sky sites in Britain and some of the clearest skies in Europe.
Situated on Langness peninsula at the most southeasterly point of the Isle of Man, Langness Lighthouse Cottages is just a 5 -minute drive from Ronaldsway Airport or a 20 minute drive from Douglas ferry terminal. Castletown, the ancient capital of Mann is just across the bay.
The lighthouse is surrounded by beautiful coves, arches, pillars, pinnacles and rock pools. Renowned for its wildlife, Langness peninsula is an SSSI and the perfect place to watch nesting and migrating birds, seals, dolphins, porpoises, Minke whales and basking sharks, often visible from the window of our holiday cottage. Rich with history, the peninsula is full of secrets, with every gully telling a story, on an Island draped in Celtic and Viking history.
The lighthouse itself, built in 1880, was designed by Thomas Stevenson, son of Robert Louis Stevenson. Its status was changed to a ‘minor light’ in 1994, with the keepers withdrawing in 1996, however it still remains an important light and is maintained by the Northern Lighthouse Board.
At Langness, you will feel a million miles from anywhere, remote and free from all the stresses of modern living but should you need to return to civilization, you are very close to Castletown with its shops, restaurants, historic attractions, steam trains & bus routes. The town was built around the medieval Castle Rushen and is within easy reach of a number of other heritage attractions; the Nautical Museum, Old Grammar School and the Old House of Keys (the former home of the Island’s parliament).
If you are a golfer then it is worth knowing that situated on the eastern side of the peninsula is the Castletown Championship Golf Course, which provides some of the best links golf anywhere in the British Isles and is included in Rolex’s Top 261 Golf Courses in the World. Kitesurfing off Castletown and Derbyhaven beach can be arranged and scuba diving.
The biggest of the Langness Lighthouse holiday cottages is Herring – a 5 Star Award property, which has 4 bedrooms. West Cottage is 4 Star Gold Award and has 2 bedrooms. East Cottage is a 4 Star award property. All cottages are beautifully refurbished and fully equipped to a very high standard.
